One of the advantages of having reliable energy is that it’s there when we need it—flip a switch and the lights come on. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t think about using energy wisely.
The advantages of using energy efficiently are obvious: it saves money at home and in businesses, it is better for the environment, and it helps to keep our energy infrastructure reliable.
Energy use continues to grow each and every year, and demand is expected to increase by nearly 30 percent by the year 2040 as the number of powered devices grows. There are now a range of state and federal programs in place to assist consumers with using energy wisely. These include programs such as ENERGY STAR, designed and implemented by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, that help consumers make choices with energy conservation in mind.
There is a lot each of us can do as individuals to help use energy efficiently. Small steps can make a big difference over time.
