RELIABILITY AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE
America’s Electric Companies are enhancing the reliability and resiliency of the energy grid
There’s no doubt about it: electricity doesn’t just keep our lights on, it powers our economy and makes our entire way of life possible. Our jobs, our health, and our safety depend on it, which is why America’s electric companies have made such a deep commitment resilience and reliability.
Thankfully, American electric companies are global leaders in power restoration, with year-round planning to prepare for all types of emergencies. This includes exercises and drills to prepare for potential new threats to the energy grid, along with new strategies and technologies respond to severe weather.
SPARE EQUIPMENT SAVES LIVES
Individual companies own hundreds of spare transformers and other equipment, which they regularly share with each other through mutual assistance programs to restore power as needed.
A COORDINATED RECOVERY
Through the Electricity Subsector Coordinating Council (ESCC), electric companies coordinate with government partners at the Department of Energy, the Department of Homeland Security, and the National Security Council to ensure seamless restoration efforts.
